REFUGEE ISSUES

Education is advocacy! As an ally to the refugee/humanitarian cause, the best ways to advocate is by educating yourself on the topics, signing petitions, protesting, or donating. Click on a country to see resources for it!

Syria

The Syrian war began in 2011, a brutal conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands of people, torn the nation apart, and set back the standard of living by decades. Since then, families have suffered greatly under this conflict. Nearly 12 million people in Syria need humanitarian assistance.

Palestine

Approximately 750,000 Palestinians were displaced and became refugees as a result of the 1948 war which led to the founding of Israel. The Palestinian refugee population has continued to grow in the time that has passed since 1948.

Afghanistan

After Afghanistan was invaded by the Soviet Union in 1979, citizens were faced with the start of violence and terrorism to come. Many seek refuge all around the world but mainly find it in countries like Pakistan and Iran.

Refugees & COVID-19

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, refugee populations are at significant risk, living in overcrowded settlements without proper sanitation or access to emergency medical treatment. Displaced families live in tents often with other families and cannot social distance or quarantine even if they wanted to.

Venezuela

In recent years, the Venezuelan economy plummeted, resulting in corruption throughout the country and putting the lives of civilians in danger. The refugee crisis in Venezuela has become the largest exodus in the recent history of Latin America.

China

Currently, the Chinese government is committing ethnic genocide to the Muslim Uyghur minority in Northwest China. They are being used for cheap labor while also being stripped of their religious identity.

Nigeria

The Nigerian refugee crisis persists after it began around 7 years ago. It is a crisis that arose from the spread of violence by the Islamist group Boko Haram and has lead to millions of Nigerians being displaced from their home.
