Syria

The Syrian refugee crisis picked up at the beginning of the 2001 Syrian civil war which has left 13.5 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. It became too dangerous for people to stay in their homes because of the war, years of bombing, and other damage done by rebel groups.

About an estimated 6.6 million displaced persons from Syria and more than 3.5 million and growing now reside in camps in Turkey. Currently, there is an outbreak of violence in the Idlib province of Syria, leaving camp resources scarce and living spaces overcrowded with the resulting influx of new displaces persons.
